The allegations relate to Langella’s behaviour on the set of a new Netflix project, the limited series The Fall of the House of Usher.
A production source informed TMZ that the actor has been accused of inappropriate conduct during the last couple of weeks. An investigation into his behaviour is reportedly underway, but Langella has retained his job in the series at the moment.
Details about exactly what happened remain scarce, although a source close to the series told TMZ that Langella allegedly made an inappropriate joke deemed sexual in nature. He allegedly also touched the leg of one of his female costars in the context of his acting performance.
The Fall of the House of Usher is being filmed in British Columbia, Canada, but the local police haven’t been contacted about the allegations yet. As Langella isn’t scheduled to shoot any scenes this week, production on the series also hasn’t been affected.
Langella first found fame as Count Dracula in 1979’s Dracula and went on to become one of the most decorated actors of his generation. For his prolific work in theatre, he’s won four Tony Awards, including two for Best Leading Actor in a Play (Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon and André in The Father).
For his performance in the big screen adaptation of the Frost/Nixon play, the 84-year-old was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor. Some of his other notable film credits include 2005’s Good Night, and Good Luck, 2012’s Robot & Frank, 2016’s Captain Fantastic, and 2020’s The Trial of the Chicago 7. On TV, he was known for his recurring role in the FX drama The Americans.
