In news that we are not entirely sure you still care about, it turns out that George R.R Martin is still plugging away at The Winds of Winter

Despite the Game of Thrones TV show having rapidly declined in cultural relevance, it seems Martin is keen to keep the series alive via the written word.

The Winds of Winter will serve as the sixth novel in the A Song of Fire and Ice series, which began with A Game of Thrones back in 1996.

Yep, that means Martin has been chipping away at this saga for almost 25 years and well, we can’t deny the commitment.

In a recent post on his blog, George R.R Martin revealed punters can expect The Winds of Winter to be published… eventually.

“I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of The Winds of Winter in 2020. The best year I’ve had on WOW since I began it,” he said.

“Why? I don’t know. Maybe the isolation. Or maybe I just got on a roll. Sometimes I do get on a roll.”

“I need to keep rolling, though,” he continued.

“I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion. That’s what 2021 is for, I hope.”

Martin went on to insist that he won’t make promises about when he will finish in order to avoid criticism, and look, he’s got a point.

“I will make no predictions on when I will finish,” he said.

“Every time I do, assholes on the internet take that as a ‘promise,’ and then wait eagerly to crucify me when I miss the deadline. All I will say is that I am hopeful,” he concluded.

In case anyone out there is still hanging out for more GOT content, its TV prequel House of the Dragon should begin production within the next few months.
