Golden Gaytime ice creams are a clear front runner when it come’s to Australia’s top dogs of ice cream, and now you can enjoy the iconic, delicious flavor of a Gaytime – minus the brain freeze – thanks to their new popcorn release.
The unexpected snack was spotted by the Instagram account of @foodfinesgeelong while they were browsing the shelves of Coles.
After some taste testing, the Instagram account approves of the new Golden Gaytime popcorn, which comes in Original and Chocolate flavour, awarding it a solid 9/10.
“This collaboration is so cool and we really haven’t had something like this in Australia before ! We love caramel and other sweet popcorn so we might be bias…but we loved this ! . It doesn’t taste exactly like a golden Gaytime but there is a resemblance , lots of creamy toffee coated popcorn with milk chocolate drizzle as well as creamy vanilla biscuity coated popcorn ? The chocolate ones are good too with hints of caramel flavor but we definitely prefer the original but overall they both have great texture, lots of coating, fun packaging and they’re the perfect snack! 9/10,” the post read.

The discovery has dedicated Gaytime fans popping off with excitement in the comments.
“Need dis,” one user eloquently commented on the post.
“It’s a yes from me,” another (assumedly) salivated.
The release seems to be somewhat of a secret mission by Streets, as prior to the discovery, the brand hadn’t publicly announced anything, nor commented on the addition of Golden Gaytime popcorn to our grocery store shelves.
Now, Streets have confirmed the find to news.com.au and revealed that it won’t be long until peeps all over Australia can get their hot little hands on the snack.
“The Griffin’s Marvels Golden Gaytime Popcorn by Snack Brands comes in two flavours, Original and Chocolate – the perfect combination of the famous Golden Gaytime vanilla biscuit crumbs and toffee makes a popped time, a Gaytime.
“Launching in February, Snack Brands’ Golden Gaytime flavoured popcorn will be available from selected Coles supermarkets nationally in March.”
While a popcorn version of Golden Gaytime may well be the new snack you never knew you needed, it’s certainly not the most wild version of the icecream. Way back yonder in 2016, a Sydney dessert track released a Golden Gaytime burger. Unsurprisingly, it seems as though the questionable culinary choice never really took off.
