Bye bye Keanu Reeves’ long hair and beard, The Matrix 4 thanks you for your sacrifice.

We’ve grown accustomed to Keanu Reeves rocking long hair and a beard (aka his John Wick look) these few years. But it seems like those rugged days are over (temporarily at least) because Reeves has shaved off his facial hair and gotten a haircut.

Eagle-eyed photographers (via People) noticed Reeves rocking his new look while he was out and about in Germany, which is where The Matrix 4 is currently being filmed.

Fans of The Matrix will immediately notice how Keanu Reeves’ clean-shaven look is reminiscent of 1999-era Neo just after he woke up in the real world, prompting speculation on what we can expect from The Matrix 4.

This new look seems to strongly suggest that Neo will be unplugged from the Matrix and wake up in the real world once again, not unlike what we witnessed in the first film, though how that will work given that the character is, well, dead after the events of The Matrix Revolutions.

Interestingly, eagle-eyed folks also spotted Reeves rocking his long hair and beard when production on The Matrix 4 restarted production a few months ago, which suggests that Neo will either grow out his hair and beard after being in the Matrix or that he looks like John Wick while still plugged into the Matrix.

No one knows anything about The Matrix 4 at the moment, other than it’ll be an “inspiring love story” and Carrie Anne Moss will be back as Trinity (who also died at the end of The Matrix Revolutions), so it’ll be super interesting to see how this new film ties up with the previous installments.

Could we be seeing Keanu Reeves Neo wake up in the real world once again in The Matrix 4? Guess we’ll have to wait and see but let’s not rule out the possibility.
