Don’t lie – you’ve been using lockdown as an excuse to binge watch The Simpsons and eat copious amounts of food that would put Homer to shame, right?

Well, luckily, Disney+ understands that we have a penchant right now for watching episode after episode of the brilliant show, and eating nothing but junk food, so they’re combining both of those activities into one, and have been releasing recipes that come right from The Simpsons.

Only a few days ago, they dropped a massive recipe to bring us Homer’s decadent moon waffles. Then, they dropped a recipe to Principal Skinner’s infamous steamed hams.

Now, they bring us the brilliance of when Homer frosted Maggie’s first birthday cake with a bit of a mishap – he spelled her name wrong.

“What? It’s not Maggagie’s birthday?” Homer queries. He then quickly decides to remedy it by eating some of the offending extra letters, before going into very Homer-esque mode, and simply devouring anything he can touch.

And, as Marge always does, she anticipates Homer already ruining the cake, so she directs him to the special cake that she made for him to ruin, that has a slew of unused letters plastered to the side.

Cake queen and Masterchef winner @emelia_jackson fixed up Maggagie’s Birthday Cake for you, Homer ??

Maggagie’s Birthday Cake

Ingredients:

For the Mudcake:

  • 1.5 Cups Water
  • 250g Unsalted Butter
  • 200g Dark Chocolate
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Cups Caster Sugar
  • 2 Cups Self-Raising Flour
  • 1 Tsp Salt

For the Buttercream:

  • 500g Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • 500g Icing Sugar Mix

For the Chocolate Drip:

  • 150g White Chocolate Chips
  • Gel Food Colour
  • 90g Cream

Method:

For the Mudcake:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the water, chocolate, and butter to the boil and melt together. Once the ingredients are completely melted, turn off the heat and whisk in the eggs and caster sugar.
  3. When completely combined, stir in the flour and salt being careful to not over-mix the batter.
  4. Divide the cake batter between two well oiled and floured 7 inch cake pans.
  5. Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in their tins for 15-20 minutes before removing them from the pans and wrapping them in cling film to completely cool.

For the Buttercream:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

For the Chocolate Drip:

  1. Melt the ingredients together in the microwave and stir to combine. Once fully combined, mix in your food colour of choice.

Assembly:

  1. To assemble the cake, place a cake layer down on your cake board or plate. Top with 3/4 cup of the buttercream and smooth until flat. Top with the remaining cake layer and cover the cake in a light coating of buttercream.
  2. Place the cake in the freezer to chill for 5-10 minutes or until the buttercream is completely set.
  3. Using gel food colouring, colour the remaining buttercream in your colour of choice. Cover the cake with the buttercream and smooth over with an offset spatula until you are happy with the appearance.
  4. Return the cake to the freezer for another 5-10 minutes to set.
  5. Once set, use a teaspoon to apply the chocolate drip all around the cake. Fill in the top of the cake with the rest of the chocolate drip.
  6. Decorate the cake with birthday candles, donuts, or anything else that takes your liking – just don’t forget to spell your child’s name right.
