This year’s Mardi Gras Film Festival will encapsulate a diverse and thought-provoking discussion of themes from filmmakers all over the world. Event Cinemas George Street will host the event, with the full program for 2015 announced today.
Festival director Paul Struthers has selected a diverse spread of films this year, including contributions from the Netherlands, the Philippines, Kenya and the first-ever queer feature from Sri Lanka.
New Australian films are well-represented, with the premiere of dramas Drown, All About E and Skin Deep. Mala Mala celebrates thePuerto Rican trans community, while Out In The Night documents the mistreatment of a group of lesbians in New York.
Comedy gets a look-in with BFFs and Do I Sound Gay? as does feminist culture in She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry
This year’s festival celebrates the ten-year anniversary of Brokeback Mountain as well as the 45th anniversary of Australia’s first centrally queer-themed production The Set.
The festival will also include a variety of short films, one of which will win theMy Queer Career prize, worth $10,000.
Event Cinemas’ pop-up festival bar will allow attendees to discuss their favourite films over a drink or party with the wide range of DJs performing nightly from 6pm.
