Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will link up with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to develop a brand new Star Wars film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The exciting news comes as the franchise gets ready for the launch of episode 9 The Rise Of Skywalker, as well as the forthcoming Mandalorian spin-off, to be released on forthcoming Disney+ streaming service.
“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company,” said Alan Horn, co-chairman and chief creative officer of Walt Disney Studios.
“Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”
There’s not a lot we know about the supposed new film, other than the rumor that there is supposedly “a major actor that there’s a specific role he (Feige) would like that person to play when and if he makes the movie,” according to a source speaking to Complex.
Feige has a pretty successful track record as far as films go, producing the likes of Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, amoungst others.
The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20th of this year, and is supposedly the last installment of the series to feature the Luke Skywalker story-line. Fingers crossed it won’t be the last of R2 or C-3PO though.
