It looks like Miley Cyrus and Australian singer Cody Simpson are no more after dating for almost a year now.

Taking to her Instagram just hours after break-up reports started to emerge, the American singer confirmed that the couple had been spending time apart.

“So today, it came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up,” she said of 23-year-old Cody.

“It was confirmed by a “reliable source” even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it, but right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age.”

She continued: “We are just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do, and so, don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re hanging out, getting pizza.

“We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not,” she said.

Cyrus moved onto Simpson in October last year after her split from another famous Australian Liam Hemsworth. She had been married to Hemsworth for just eight months before their split.

Prior to this Cyrus and Simpson had known each other for years and he confirmed that he’d had a crush on the star since he was a kid and she was a child star.

“I always had an affinity for her,” he told The Project in October.

“I’ve always had a crush on her, I told her that … it worked,” he joked.

Not long after they got together, Cyrus said Simpson made her realise that not all men were “evil”.

Gushing over her new beau to her millions of Instagram followers, the singer said she “thought she had to be gay” because she thought “all guys were evil” before she struck up a relationship with Simpson, seemingly a thinly veiled attack on Liam Hemsworth’s character.
