It’s been quite a few years but we’re actually getting a new James Bond game and the thing looks pretty promising on paper already.
There was a time when there were James Bond games coming out every year to waning interest as gamers repeatedly compared them to the iconic 1997 Nintendo 64 title Goldeneye 007 and kept falling short of expectations.
But now after a period of eight years without a new game, James Bond is finally returning and things actually look quite promising this time around.
IO Interactive, the developers of the well-received rebooted Hitman games, has announced that it’s working on a new Bond game, which is currently got a working title of Project 007.
Unlike most of the previous 007 games that have come out, this new title will “feature a wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game” that will act a s something of an origin story for the character where players have to “earn their 00 status.”
Sort of like Casino Royale but not quite Casino Royale then.
So why is Project 007 looking more promising than previous Bond games? Well IO Interactive’s work on the Hitman games was fantastic and really captured what it’s like to be a deadly spy who is adept at firefights and being stealthy.

If they can bring that level of energy to Project 007, then we’re looking at a pretty exciting Bond game already.
As for when Project 007 will come out, no clue on the release window just yet but it’ll likely be a bit of a wait as it’s currently in development on “modern systems and platforms” – presumably meaning the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
The only thing we can say for certain is that the latest Bond film, No Time To Die, will come out before the game as that’s scheduled for an April 2021 release (unless it gets delayed once again).
