Thought Pennywise The Dancing Clown was bad? Get ready to meet Sweet Tooth – the star of PlayStation’s new ‘Twisted Metal’ TV show.

Fresh off the back of Pedro Pascal’s casting for HBO’s highly anticipated The Last of Us, PlayStation Productions has gone ahead and started developing a new series. This time it’s based on the vehicular combat video game series, Twisted Metal.

The original game, which released for the original PlayStation way back in 1996 is focused around Calypso, the host of a tournament called Twisted Metal, which grants the winner anything they desire. Sounds legit.

This fresh take, however, is being pitched as an action comedy. Kinda makes sense considering Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the Deadpool and Zombieland , are the brains behind the whole shebang. It’s also being penned by one of the writers behind the new Netflix sensation Cobra Kai, which is making us cautiously optimistic.

The show will reportedly centre on a ‘moto-mouthed outsider’ who attempts to deliver a mysterious package across an apocalyptic wasteland in the hopes of gaining a better life. Sounds simple enough, aside from the totally normal dangers of the open road and a psychotic, ice-cream truck-driving clown known only as Sweet Tooth. This flame-haired, gun-toting villain will likely ruin Mr. Whippy for a whole generation of children.

See where it all started…

Honestly, it sounds like a weird, bloody blend of The Transporter and Mad Max: Fury Road, but we’re all aboard this batshit train of insanity. You can dial up our excitement a few more notches with the rumours that Will Arnett will be voicing Sweet Tooth.

“’Twisted Metal’ is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation,” said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. “We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans.”

If you’re a video game fan, it truly is a wonderful time to be alive. Especially after that Mortal Kombat trailer didn’t totally suck.
