Police body cam footage of the immediate moments following the tragic shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has been released.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department unveiled the footage as their investigation into Hutchins’ shooting continues. The cinematographer was shot last October during Rust rehearsals at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico.

The gun was unexpectedly loaded with live ammunition and allegedly fired by Alec Baldwin, although the actor claimed he didn’t actually pull the trigger. One of the live bullets hit Hutchins in the chest and she died later at an Albuquerque hospital.

The newly released police body cam footage captures Baldwin and first assistant director Dave Halls talking to the police about Hutchins: Baldwin seems to be cooperating fully, insisting that he was the person holding the gun and offering to answer any of the police’s questions.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department also released other material from its investigation, including several photos and videos from the Rust set. This includes rehearsal footage of Baldwin holding the gun on set and his initial interview with investigators.

There’s also a video of director Joel Souza in the emergency room, explaining to an investigator what happened. He can be heard saying that the he thought the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, said the gun was either “cold” or “clean” (meaning that it contained just blanks and not live rounds).

As Sheriff Adan Mendoza explained on Monday, April 25th, the investigation is very much still ongoing. “Various components of the investigation remain outstanding, including FBI firearm and ballistic forensics along with DNA and latent fingerprint analysis, (coroner’s) findings and the analysis of Mr. Alec Baldwin’s phone data extracted by Suffolk County Sheriff’s investigators,” he explained.

“Once these investigative components are provided to the sheriff’s office, we will be able to complete the investigation to forward it to the Santa Fe district attorney for review.” As a result, criminal charges in the shooting are still a genuine possibility.
