Avengers fans come from all walks of life and Avengers films tend to monopolise the box office whenever they’re released. This long-form quiz will separate the super-nerds from the casual observers.

2008’s Iron Man marked the induction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The superhero film series that brings Stan Lee’s comic book characters to the big screen has since become staggeringly successful. And at 23 films and counting, it shows no signs of letting up.

Many of the Western world’s biggest film stars have appeared in Marvel films. From Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark/Iron Man to Chris Evans as Captain America and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, a who’s who of Hollywood A-listers have slipped into a body suit and embraced the supernatural.

MCU films obliterate box office records whenever they’re released. This has been a fact of life ever since the first ensemble film, 2012’s The Avengers, became the highest grossing film of 2012. In terms of all-time box office records, no other franchise even comes close to the Avengers.

2019’s Avengers: Endgame currently ranks as the highest grossing film of all time. Its predecessor, 2018’s Infinity War, isn’t far behind in fifth place, while the aforementioned 2012 instalment sits in eighth place.

Films based on individual characters also fare well. 2018’s glass ceiling shattering Black Panther raked in more than US$1bn and stands as the 12th highest grossing film of all time. Films centred on Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel all appear in the top 50.

You’ve probably seen at least handful of films from the Infinity Saga, which wrapped up with last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. So ahead of the upcoming Black Widow – the first film from MCU phase four – let’s find out just how much of an Avengers nerd you really are!
