In a new report from Puck, it was revealed that Rian Johnson allegedly begged Ted Sarandos for a theatrical release for one of his movies.

It was reported by Puck that Rian Johnson reportedly begged Netflix co-CEO for a theatrical release of his Knives Out spinoff, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. According to the report, which draws from the book of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, the theatrical release for the movie will not be moving forward.

“Same with putting movies in theaters. Rian Johnson is said to have begged Netflix co C.E.O. Ted Sarandos for a real theatrical exclusive for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. As of now, it’s not happening, I’m told, outside of a few marketing stunts. (Maybe Ted would have reconsidered if Johnson had given back some of that $450 million Netflix paid for the sequels?) That’s probably a few hundred million dollars Netflix is leaving on the table to send the movie directly to the service, revenue that Wall Street probably would have loved to see on the bottom line. But it would be a major”

In other Netflix news, a former Netflix employee who was let go during the large wave of layoffs back in April of 2022 is now reacting to Netflix’s order of a Squid Game reality show in which the cash prize is $4.56M. The layers comprised of the lack of respect for people’s lives have been slowly stacked up by Netflix over the past year and it seems to be coming back to bite them as subscriber numbers drop.

With their reveal of this new Squid Game reality show, Netflix is further disenfranchising the workers they laid off in April, many of whom were POC. Reina Sultan was among those workers, and now she has taken to Twitter to comment on the situation.
