The trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dropped this week and fans have been dissecting it ever since.
When Marvel then released a new poster for the film, it stirred up speculation that Deadpool was involved in the film, all because of a blurry reflection in the poster. The theory soon went viral but it was all for nothing. As per Variety, Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, put to bed all the rumours of a Deadpool and Doctor Strange crossover.
“I’m really not in the movie,” Reynolds insisted. When prodded with the idea that he might be lying, he added, “I’m promising, I’m not in the movie.”
Suspicion further rose when he joked to the reporter “there’s a team of people that will neutralize you as soon as you leave.”
Deadpool fans shouldn’t worry, though, as Marvel has done this dance before. Andrew Garfield was adamant that he wasn’t in the Spider-Man film and we all know what happened there.
And Doctor Strange has its fill of rumoured cameos anyway. Halfway through the new trailer, a shadowy figure muttered to an imprisoned Strange, “we should tell him the truth,” and fans thought it sounded a lot like Professor Charles Xavier.
While people were immediately hopeful that it was the X-Men legend, it would be one of the biggest shocks in MCU history. Despite having lengthy conversations with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige about the possibility of bringing Xavier to new films, Sir Patrick Stewart said that the success of Logan had put him off.

“(Hugh Jackman and I) were moved by the story… we also both made the decision that we were saying goodbye to our characters,” he explained. A lot can change in a year, though, and it sure does sound like Xavier in the new trailer. And the multiverse narrative device allows for such massive cameos to take place.
Tom Cruise is also rumoured to be in the Doctor Strange film but, unlike Reynolds, he hasn’t dismissed the idea yet.
