Acclaimed Caldera director Laurence Rosier Staines has unveiled his dark new project, You Can Have It All. A three-room interactive Potts Point escape room experience that will plunge you into a lusty, S&M fever dream.

Much of You Can Have It All remains a mystery. The website instructs attendees to show up at an undisclosed venue in Potts Point, 15-minutes before your escape room appointment. You will then receive a directive email, ushering you into a local Art Deco dwelling brimming with mystery and intrigue.

If you’ve ever secretly dreamed of immersing yourself in the dark, sphinxlike world of Atom Egoyan’s Exotica, this is the perfect opportunity. The whodunnit mystery promises “a world of lurid drama, love triangles, blackmail, S&M, murder and romance.”

“I wanted to begin with something that’s a massive part of our culture, which this year’s circumstances have only made clearer,” explained Rosier Staines. “You first step into a room with a flat-screen television where a young woman is catching you up on the latest plot twists of a show she’s watching. By the end, two rooms later, you’ve been part of something transportive, something that you never expected.”

The experience takes around 20 minutes, but participants are welcome to stay longer. You Can Have It All will take place between November 25th-29th and December 2nd-6th. Tickets will set you back $40. You can find more information on their website.

In other news, beloved Potts Point institution Hayes Theatre recently announced their long-awaited comeback: a production of Mel Brooks’ cult horror-romp Young Frankenstein that will return to the stage in February 2021.

Workshopped with the creative team behind 2019’s enthralling adaptation of American Psycho, the new production will see a number of Hayes Theatre stalwarts make their welcome return.
