Beloved Potts Point entertainment hub Hayes Theatre is set to make its welcome returned with a brand new production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein.

The stage adaption is drawn from Mel Brooks’ cult horror parody of the same name. Workshopped with the creative team behind 2019’s enthralling adaptation of American Psycho, the new production is set to grace the Hayes Theatre stage in February 2021.

Young Frankenstein sees director Alexander Berlage work in collaboration with choreographer Yvette Lee, designers Isabel Hudson and Mason Brown.

Those who regularly frequent the Potts Point joint are set to see some familiar faces take the stage, with the likes of Matthew Backer (Only Heaven Knows) playing the titular role of Frederick Frankenstein, Shannon Dooley (American Psycho), Ben Gerrard (American Psycho, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown), and Amy Hack (Caroline or Change, Cry Baby).

It will also mark the Hayes Theatre debut of Lucia Mastrantone, Olivia Charalambous, Nick Eynaud and Luke Leong-Tay.

“I am so stoked to be joined by this incredible creative and cast chock-a-blocked with some of Australia’s greatest all singing and dancing clowns to be finally bringing Mel Brook’s mad-cap comedy Young Frankenstein to life on stage at the Hayes in February 2021,” said director Alexander Berlage.

“I am especially excited to have supreme funny human Matthew Backer leading the cast as Frederick Frankenstein. In a year filled with uncertainty, fear, isolation, orange dictators, lies and collective anxiety we look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre with an outrageously theatrical night filled with frivolity, campery, naughtiness and maybe a few surprises here and there.”
