For those who want to see the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, well your wish has been granted in the new trailer.

After dropping several teasers over the last few months, including the first image of redesigned big big bad Steppenwolf (aka shiny wicker basket), Zack Snyder has finally dropped the first trailer for his version of Justice League.

And it’s… more shots and angles of Justice League we’ve seen before to be honest.

Okay, that’s not true, there’s a few new snippets of Steppenwolf in action and Ben Affleck speaking in a deep gravelly voice.

Oh and we finally see some of Jared Leto’s much ballyhooed new scenes as the Joker.

But this is Zack Snyder we’re talking about and it was so typical of him to include a Joker scene in the trailer in which he refashions an internet meme loved by incels and edgelords into something he thinks is cool.

Towards the end of the new Justice League trailer, this new-look Joker says the following to Batman: “We live in a society where honor is a distant memory. Isn’t that right, Batman?”

Yes, Zack Snyder actually got the Joker to say “we live in a society” in an unironic way. Oh the irony.

For those who don’t understand why this “we live in a society” quote is an internet meme and why Snyder’s use of it is so unintentionally hilarious, the quote is wildly popular among internet basement dwellers and edgelords who feel ostracised in the same way the Joker does.

The only thing is that the Joker never canonically said it (until now that is) and this attempt from internet edgelords to express how they’re actually the cool folks in society backfired dramatically as “we live in a society’ quickly became a meme used to ridicule those who thought there were being deep or something.

So unsurprisingly, folks had a field day with Snyder’s new Justice League trailer and its “we live in a society’ moment.

Even Jared Leto chimed in on Twitter about this whole “we live in a society” meme, though one thinks he tweeted it out unironically rather than the joke it actually is.

Well we won’t have long to wait to see whether Jared Leto’s Joker adds anything to Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League – and whether the film will be any, you know, good – as it’s scheduled to come out on March 18th on HBO Max.

Still can’t believe this is a thing. We live in a society indeed.
