As anticipation for Stranger Things 5 builds, creators Duffer Brothers have said that they will not add any new characters to the story.

With Stranger Things 4 being one of the only things that the internet has been able to talk about these days, it’s no secret that people have questions about the next instalment of the show.

And while Duffer Brothers have made somewhat of a tradition out of introducing new characters every season, the fifth and last instalment, they say, will not have any new faces.

Speaking about the fourth season and the next one on Stranger Things 4: Vol. 2 Unlocked, Matt Duffer said: “We’re stopping, we’re not adding any more characters in season 5, I promise.”

For the next one, they say, they’ll focus on tying up all the loose ends as Hawkins and the protagonists head for a final showdown.

While we may not see any new faces, there are old ones that the audience is clearly worried about or hoping to see again. The Duffer Brothers have confirmed that seasons four and five will have a short time-skip during which the characters will have aged, but we still don’t know how that bodes for the Hawkins gang.

During the final episode of Season 4, the fate of Sadie Sink’s Max, for example – spoiler alert – was left hanging in the balance and doctors proclaimed she might not recover from her injuries.

Season 4 also saw the death of beloved metalhead and nerd Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), who went out a hero in the ‘most metal’ way ever. Audiences have been clamouring to see Joe back in his Munson wig, even theorising that he might come back as Vecna’s undead right-hand man Kas, who then turns on the former and kills him. Quinn himself has claimed he’d be up to return.

“It’d be nice to clear his name. I don’t know how we’re gonna do that. But it feels unjust, doesn’t it? He paid the ultimate sacrifice for a town that thinks he’s a monster,” Joseph said in an interview with E! News. “But he’s not. So hopefully, they can figure that out.”

Fans also might get to see more of Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna, who – the actor confirmed – was only injured in the coordinated attack by Robin, Steve, and Nancy.

Whatever the course, however, the arcs of Season 4 will have major consequences in Season 5.

“For the first time ever, we don’t wrap things up at the end of [season 4]. Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different. I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer,” Matt Duffer told Happy Sad Confused podcast about the next season.
