The newest restriction for shopping has dropped – there will now be a limit placed on the number of people who can be in the supermarket at once due to COVID-19.

You may have noticed that your Woolies and Coles shops have been a bit different lately. There’s been a limit put in place of how many packages of toilet paper you can purchase and the floors are marked with tape to encourage social distancing. Now, there has been a limit put in place for how many shoppers can be inside the supermarket at once.

With COVID-19 still rapidly spreading throughout the world, everyone is doing their part to help flatten the curve, and slow the spread of the virus. The government has enacted multiple rules of which places can and can’t be open, and has told all of us that we need to maintain a distance of 1.5 metres from people who are not in our household.

As grocery shopping is deemed an essential task, the shops have recently erected tape barriers on the floor to show customers what 1.5 metres look like, as well as having sneeze guards in place as a barrier between the shopper and the clerk.

As it’s sometimes difficult to adhere to social distancing rules while in the cramped aisles of a supermarket, Coles, Woolworths, and Aldi have enacted a new rule of limiting the amount of shoppers that can be in the shop at one time.

As each shop is different, and each location are of various sizes, the limit of shoppers will vary between each supermarket. Both staff and security will be placed at each entrance and exit to ensure the correct limit is enforced, and social distancing at all times.

As each supermarket is different, be sure to mind the signs that are in place, and be courteous and kind to those who are helping to ensure that we still get our groceries as needed.
