Prepare yourselves because here’s our explainer on just what exactly is going on with Armie Hammer and his wild personal life right now.

It all started a week ago when very, very graphic screenshots started being shared on social media by Instagram user @houseofeffie. They seemed to show evidence of Hammer partaking in years of affairs with multiple women. More alarmingly are the displays of desire to indulge in rape and cannibalism.

One screenshot allegedly showed him asking a lady if he could “cut off one of your toes and keep it with me in my pocket so I always had a piece of you in my possession.”

Another saw Hammer unflatteringly say “Text me about me breaking your bones while raping you … and I’ll send you the voice note while I cum reading it.”

Other messages show Hammer allegedly claim he’s “100 per cent a cannibal … I want to eat you. That’s so scary to admit. I’ve never admitted that before,” and ““I need to drink your blood. Why the distance?”

Hammer had been married to his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers for 10 years when they announced their separation last July on Instagram. The pair have two children together. The messages were allegedly sent between 2016 and 2020, meaning they would have taken place during his marriage.

The Instagram messages purportedly came from the actor’s official account but it’s currently unverified and it must be noted that at this point it’s all conjecture: we don’t yet know if it all of the screenshots are really from Hammer.

After being silent on the matter, Hammer has now finally addressed the controversy with an elusive statement following reports (via Deadline) that he was dropped from the lead role in an upcoming movie.

Released to Variety, Hammer made it clear that he wasn’t responding specifically to the “vicious and spurious claims,” instead insisting that his exiting of the film project was due to the need to spend more time with his family in order to deal with the aftermath of all this controversy.

“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” he said in his statement.

“Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

The movie in question is Shotgun Wedding, a planned forthcoming movie with Jennifer Lopez. Imagine old DMs making you miss out making a movie with the superstar of Hustlers. Karma is a bitch.

“Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” a spokesperson for Lionsgate said.

Armie Hammer of course is most famous for his starring role in the beloved movie Call Me By Your Name opposite Timothée Chalamet.

With that movie boasting an adoring and devoted fanbase, the screenshots will have been particularly upsetting. He was actually scheduled to film a sequel to Call Me By Your Name but that looks in doubt now.
