The perfect actor, Pedro Pascal, has been cast as Joel in the new The Last of Us TV adaptation and we couldn’t be more excited.
As per Deadline, Pascal is the latest addition to join HBO’s eagerly-anticipated The Last Of Us adaptation, based on the best-selling video game series of the same name.
He’ll star as Joel, a grizzled survivor in a post-apocalypse world, who’s hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. Together, they traverse the U.S., depending on each other for survival.
The Pascal news comes after we found out that Bella Ramsey had been cast in the role of Ellie. And HBO really didn’t have to look far to fill the roles: both Ramsey and Pascal were in another big-budget adaptation, Game of Thrones! Pascal played the charismatic Oberyn Martell (sorry about that brutal ending mate) while Ramsey was the diminutive Lyanna Mormont.
Pascal’s almost getting greedy with these huge roles. He also recently starred in the Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, another iconic series.
With The Last of Us being regularly cited as one of the greatest video game series of all time, the pressure’s definitely on but the adaptation should be in good hands: it’s being helmed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin alongside Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog studio, the developers of the video game.
For Naughty Dog, thisis just the latest of their creations to be adapted for a bigger screen. A movie based on Uncharted is due for release in 2022, starring Tom Holland in the lead role of Nathan Drake.

So fingers crossed that they don’t muck up this adaption. Gamers can be a vocal and opinionated lot, HBO. In the meantime, why not play the game again and decide if Pascal and Ramsey will truly be a good fit?
