The first teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is here after footage initially featured in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home

The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie sees Benedict Cumberbatch return as Doctor Strange and things look messy for him. This time he’s teaming up with Wanda Maximoff to battle a series of monsters and villains arriving into our world from the multiverse. “The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little,” as the tagline says, which might be an understatement.

The trailer shows a hideous tentacled monster with one big eye (based on the comic-book villains Shuma-Gorath and Gargantos) who wants to cause chaos. There’s even an alternative version of Doctor Strange, intent on wreaking mayhem for his counterpart ( who originally appeared in the animated Disney+ series What If…?).

The upcoming movie follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the first season of Loki, and WandaVision. Cumberbatch and Wanda’s Elizabeth Olsen are backed up by a strong cast, including Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo.

And the fact that Sam Raimi, the iconic director of the first Spider-Man trilogy, is helming the movie promises much. It’s incredibly his first movie in nine years, since 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful (the less said about that, the better).

He replaced the original director Scott Derrickson, who stepped down from the project due to creative differences. Loki writers Michael Waldron and Jade Halley Bartlett are penning the new Doctor Strange.

After being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to arrive in cinemas on May 5th, 2022.
