The first teaser trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, is here and I think I’m ready to deal with House Targaryen again.
Let’s not kid ourselves here: the Game of Thrones finale was legacy-damaging stuff. How the writers thought that was a suitable ending, I’ll never know.
But it’s been a sufficient while I think. I’ve went through the Tiger King cycle; I’ve been obsessed with Squid Game like the rest of the world this month. It’s time for a bit of ludicrous fantasy again.
HBO Max has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated House of the Dragon and it promises lots of bloody fights, serious conversations, fire and flowing white hair.
The prequel is set 200 years before the events that made up Game of Thrones and follows the House Targaryen as they become involved in a bitter civil war, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’. It’s based on another of George R.R. Martin’s books, 2018’s Fire & Blood.
“Gods, kings, fire and blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings – dragons did,” spits Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon Targaryen in the trailer’s voiceover, promising a lot more dragons than GoT at the very least.
Consisting of 10 episodes, House of the Dragon is set to debut in 2022, hopefully sooner rather than later. Matt Smith is joined in a stellar cast by Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Rhys Ifans.

And I know you were worrying but the show runners aren’t David Benioff and D.B. Weiss this time. The prequel is instead being helmed by Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, with the latter winning an Emmy for directing the classic GoT episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’.
