I don’t know how it happened, but summer is just around the corner. I’m still convinced it’s June but I’m more than willing to buy into this narrative.

We all deserve a fucking really good summer after all the chaos and unceasing shittiness that has been this past year. I just started welling up at the thought of drinking 3-4 beverages at the beach with my nearest and dearest. Catching some colour, letting the harsh sun rays microwave our brains until we’re incapable of stringing a sentence together and instead communicate only by passing each other an empty packet of salt and vinegar chips to ash into.

You may recall that last year, the American summer was lovingly referred to as ‘White Claw Summer’ after the hard seltzer of the same name. It was all rage. People went nuts for the stuff. The brew inspired merch, endless memes, the catchphrase “claw is the law”, and, unfortunately, this tattoo of Baby Yoda.

The White Claw phenomena is pretty easy to explain. It’s essentially alcoholic carbonated water that tastes a bit like watery fruit, inoffensive, easy to drink, maybe delicious? It also only contains 100 calories and 2 grams of carbs per 12-ounce can, which is where I think they really get their claws in you.

The actual drink sounds fine, give or take, whatever. The prospect of being able to sink a few beverages with friends and not have to pay for it with a complete meltdown over my appearance in the days following? music to my ears baby. It’s astonishing how the ritual of drinking VB longnecks in Camperdown Park catches up to you.

In absolutely perfect news, White Claw will finally be making its way to Australian shores from October 12th. The first drop of the cult brew will arrive with three flavours – natural lime, ruby grapefruit and mango. With a four-pack setting you back $23.99.
