“We can make McDonald’s at home” is the single worst thing a parent can say to a child requesting the greasy rush of a Macca’s trip. But now you can actually approximate the best element of McDonald’s food – the special sauce.

If you look at the list of ingredients listed on their website, you’ll see common household staples such as Calcium Chloride, Xanthan Gum, and Potassium Sorbate. But, should you have ran dry of Propylene Glycol Alginate (always keep that stocked, you fool!) never fear, because you can create an uncanny approximation of the real things using things you’d easily find in your local IGA (this is not an IGA ad. Nor a McDonald’s one.)

TopSecretRecipes.com are the alchemists behind this particular blend, and we have to say, it’s fairly spot on. By fairly, I of course mean EXACTLY.

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons French dressing
  • 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Then you simply stir until it’s a beautiful gluggy mess, sit it in the fridge for a few hours, then proceed to put it on everything you eat from now until your third heart attack. McLicious!
