TV Host Peter Maddison has slammed The Block and called for it to be ‘banned from television’ – why though?

Grand Designs Australia host Peter Maddison really does not like The Block – so much so that he wants for it to be taken off air.

In a recent interview with The Binge Guide, Maddison slammed the famous renovation-based reality show. Depending on what perspective you take, however, he did make some points. According to Maddison, the show gave viewers an unrealistic idea of what life as a tradie is like.

Claiming that the show was ‘absolute bloody nonsense’, Maddison told The Binge Guide: “It should be banned from television because it leaves people with the false aspirations that they can become – in inverted commas – a project manager or a builder or a designer.”

“It’s a joke. It’s a very bad example of the reality of building, the responsibilities around that and the difficulty of it all. They make it look very easy.” he added.

Well, the controversies around this season might also lend Maddison’s opinions some credibility. The show’s finale became a point of contention for many when Danny Wallis – who is a regular buyer on The Block – ended up buying three of the five houses up for sale.

To add fuel to the fire, winners Omar and Oz were embroiled in controversy after their ties with another bidder, Adrian Portelli, were revealed. This, too, came after a season pulled up for being rigged and for planting dummy bidders.

Not to mention, even the fans weren’t impressed with the designs for the houses. Shortly after the show wrapped, a fan posted pictures of the location where the properties were, which eventually provided some explanation as to why two houses did not sell.

One comment claimed the houses were too close to each other, compromising privacy among other things. “I was wondering if it was to do with them sharing the power grid/water etc and they didn’t want to space them too far apart. But whatever reason, as a buyer I wouldn’t want to be that close to my neighbour on such a large block.” the comment read.

Another slammed the awkward designing of the properties. “God the old and new is jarring, no architectural linkages at all. How they are $4m plus is crazy.” they said.
