The 2023 Logie Awards have a new home and are shifting from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Sydney.

The event has been on the move in recent years, after a long stint at Melbourne’s Crown Casino.

Where exactly it will take place in Sydney, however, is not yet clear.

The Logies reward television personalities and programs based on popularity as determined via a public vote. It was long associated with TV Week magazine, which meant voting skewed towards the preferences of that magazine’s readership, however increasingly it has allowed the general public to vote online, regardless of whether or not they purchase TV Week.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said bringing the Logie Awards back to Sydney after three decades will be a game-changer for NSW.

“Sydney is the best city in Australia and the home of our television and production industries, making it the obvious choice for the TV WEEK Logie Awards,” he said.

“Television’s night of nights now has its rightful home in The Harbour City, showcasing the glitz and glamour of our vibrant nightlife. This will inject millions of dollars into the NSW economy, creating hundreds of jobs in production, hospitality and events.”

The awards will now be broadcast on Channel 7, instead of Channel 9.

The network said this year’s awards will take place on Sunday, July 30 and will be “different, bigger than ever, spectacular and a great celebration of Australia’s love of television”.

Last year, Hamish Blake won the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television and the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

Tony Armstrong, meanwhile, received the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular Talent.

There was some disquiet, however, with some stars of Neighbours declaring that the awards ceremony did not do enough to honour the program which was about to end its decades-long run.

In a further twist, Neighbours will be back later this year, thanks to a last-minute deal between Amazon and Network 10.
