Fast food companies these days are always trying to one up each other and come up with the most exciting new products, there are so many limited time fancy options at McDonald’s right now it can be easy to forget about the classic hits.

Sadly that’s exactly what happened in the UK recently as all McDonald’s franchises in the United Kingdom have stopped serving sundaes due to a lack of popularity.

The company responded to some of the angry sundae fans on twitter saying “they weren’t very popular” and citing the government’s recommended sugar intake as well. People were pretty quick to point out that the sugar intake reasoning was ironic as they are still selling McFlurries which have more sugar than sundaes. In response a spokesperson for the company later told LadBible the decision was purely due to lack of popularity and not to do with the sugar intake recommendations.

The Spokesperson added “The removal of Sundaes from our menu makes room for the mini McFlurry and promotional favourites like the Smarties McFlurry, which have proved incredibly popular with customers.”

The news has caused a lot of upset amongst fans of the classic toffee sundae, with many taking to Twitter to voice their upset.

The backlash from the choice may help overturn the decision however, as we recently saw KFC Singapore bring back Hot Devil Drumlets after a fans Twitter campaign caught their attention. Until that happens, anyone after a sweet treat from Maccas will have to choose from their McFlurry options until further notice.
