Over the weekend, SNL tried their hand at parodying the real pandemic of 2020: the shortage of PS5 consoles.

Reworking the iconic music video for Eminem’s 2000 anthem-turned-cultural-portmanteau ‘Stan’, the Pete Davidson-led skit delivered a truly harrowing Christmas track, ‘Stu.’ They even enlisted Eminem himself for a tiny cameo.

The skit saw a bleached-blond Davidson recreate the video with surgical precision, penning a yearning note to Santa. “Dear Santa / I can’t believe the year is almost over / it’s getting colder, I’m a year older but I’m still your soldier.”

The track was a desperate plea for Kris Kringle to deliver the most coveted gizmo of 2020, the PS5: “the only thing keeping me alive / Dear Santa, please bring me a PS5.”

He mused: “I tried to buy one at Walmart / ran around the shop mall like Paul Blart / tried to find one for sale / but the thing is they’re all out / yo, I even went to a Gamestop / but then I was like, ‘Oh wait stop’ / Santa Claus can make one, the man got his own workshop.”

Kate McKinnon stepped up to the plate to deliver the iconic Dido verse, crooning: “Stu is waiting for his surprise / to open up a PS5 / he just really wants to play / “Assassin’s Creed” on Christmas Day / but he can’t buy it himself because he lost his job because he was stealing from his boss / I’d be worried, Stu’s a scary guy / a scary guy.”

The close of the SNL sketch saw an appearance from a Christmas-sweater clad Eminem, who admitted to copping the PS5 console despite not asking for it.
