After the announcement of a new Star Wars film, more details have emerged as to where and when the film will take place.
The Star Wars franchise’s timeline is vast and every film or series requires your nerd friend (or you) to explain exactly where each instalment sits in it.
However, the latest addition to the saga seems to be taking a less complex approach.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to be a standalone film that will take place after the epic final battle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). This essentially means that all the other series’ and films happen before this new movie.

Though it is reiterated that it will not necessarily be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, it may feature characters from that latest trilogy.
The film is set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who broke into stardom by directing two episodes of Ms. Marvel.
Penning the script is Damon Lindelof of Lost and Watchmen fame, and Justin Britt-Gibson who wrote episodes of Counterpart and The Strain.
Though there have been several successful Disney+ shows emerge in the last few years, it will be the first feature film since 2019. Prior to this, there were five in five years.
It is conjectured that the studio attempted to develop a similar strategy to the Marvel franchise which sees several properties a year hit the screens. However, they quickly abandoned this method.
Though Obaid-Chinoy’s film is still a while off, Andor is currently streaming on Disney+ and there are several other projects coming soon including The Mandalorian season 3, Ashoka, Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law, The Acolyte and Lando.
There are other seemingly other films in the works, but the status of these films seem to change regularly.
