Former MTV star, pro skateboarder and businessman Bam Margera is back in rehab, and his family have denied rumours he is in a ‘conservatorship’ à la Britney Spears.

Issuing a lengthy statement on Margera’s socials, “The Margera Family” confirmed the former Jackass star is back in treatment and they are helping with his social media while he focuses on recovery.

“It’s no secret that Bam has struggled with mental health and addiction,” they wrote. “Our family has let you into the chaos that is our home, and we want nothing more than to continue this journey together.”

They went on to say the ‘Free Bam’ movement had caused “confusion” and “threat” to Margera and his family.

“Despite rumours, Bam has never been in a conservatorship but rather a temporary healthcare guardianship for reasons not shared with the public,” the statement read. “If Bam chooses to speak to this, he will when he is ready. The ‘Free Bam’ theorists have encouraged his exit from treatment, despite their lacking knowledge of the details, his health, and well-being.”

The family asked for fans to “respect the process” and to support Margera in his recovery.

As The Brag has previously reported, Margera has had multiple failed attempts at rehab.

In 2019 he was arrested for trespass after leaving a treatment facility. Margera was reported missing from a court-ordered sober living facility in Florida in June twice, before he was found and returned to the facility.

Video also emerged of him partying with friends while he was out of the treatment facility.

Almost a year ago, he was involuntarily taken to rehab following a disturbance at a Tampa Bay-area hotel.

Amidst last year’s rehab stints, Jackass director Jeff Tremaine filed a restraining order against Margera, citing “death threats” against himself and his family.

Margera had allegedly sent the director threatening text messages after he was fired from Jackass Forever.

He then sued the film’s producers, claiming his removal from the project was mental health discrimination.

In the suit, filed against Paramount Pictures, MTV Networks, Jeff Tremaine, Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze, Margera claims that in 2019, whilst receiving treatment at a rehab facility, Tremaine, Knoxville and Jonze “accosted him and coerced him” into signing a “Wellness Agreement,” which required him to blow into a breathalyzer three times a day, submit to a urinalysis twice a week, have his hair follicles tested on a regular basis, and take medication every morning while on a FaceTime call with a doctor hired by Paramount.

The lawsuit itself drew comparisons between Margera’s “draconian” agreement and Britney Spears’ public conservatorship battle.

The news of Margera’s return to rehab comes just 11 weeks after he shared an update to Instagram celebrating one year of treatment along with the hashtag “bamsfree”.
