Jeff Bezos steps down as Amazon CEO in a shock announcement and boy did the internet have a field day with that bit of surprise news.

You’d think that after Elon Musk swiped the title of “world’s richest person” from Jeff Bezos that he’ll go to whatever lengths to reclaim that accolade back from the bloke who has become famous for not understanding COVID and his various antics.

Instead, we got a shock announcement from the Amazon CEO that he plans to straight up ditch his job in favour of doing something else.

In an email sent to all Amazon employees (and also published online), Bezos announced that in Q3 of 2021 he’ll be transitioning to Executive Chair of the Amazon Board and getting Andy Jassy to be the company’s new CEO.

So what’s Bezos going to do in his new role? Well apparently his aim is to “focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives.”

Not sure what that means but if it’s anything like him putting $10 billion towards fighting climate change then I’m all for it.

Or maybe he realised there’s an opportunity to be had with all the Reddit/GameStop drama and decided to jump ship.

To be honest, “Jeff Bezos steps down as Amazon CEO” isn’t something I expected to write today. One day for sure, just not today.
